NAFAC 2024 launched - Will be held in Techiman October

The 2024 edition of the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFAC) has been launched to provide a platform for stakeholders in the arts and culture industry to interact, showcase talents and creativity.

It is also to serve as an avenue to project the nation’s values and heritage, as well as develop the spirit of identity and pride. The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, launched the festival in Accra yesterday on the theme: "Beyond NAFAC at 60: Harnessing culture, the pivot for Ghana's democracy and sustainable development."

This year’s event will be held in Techiman in the Bono East Region from October 25 to 31, 2024. The NAFAC 2024 National Planning Committee was also inaugurated at the event.

Significance

The Executive Director of the National Commission on Culture (NCC), Nana Otuo Owoahene Acheampong, said NAFAC had over 60 years contributed significantly to the socio-cultural and economic growth of the country.

“It has been at the forefront in the promotion of peaceful coexistence, political, religious and ethnic tolerance among communities and groups within and outside Ghana,” he said.

Nana Acheampong added that this year’s NAFAC would create a stage for all 16 regions in the country to showcase their natural peculiarities and economic endowments through photographic exhibitions and creativity.

He said it would also present a unique opportunity for the Bono East Region to highlight the beauty, uniqueness, resilience, socio-cultural and economic endowment of the people and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

“We also believe that our enviable and revered chieftaincy institution must be encouraged to take its rightful place in the governance and development of our country. “These and more shall be the highlights and focus of the various events and activities that will take place during the festival.

Commitment

For his part, Mr Okraku-Mantey said NAFAC marked a pivotal moment in the nation's commitment to preserve and promote its rich artistic and cultural heritage. “We are laying the foundation for a vibrant future where our arts and culture will flourish, reflecting the diverse tapestry of our nation's identity.

“This initiative is not only a testament to our recognition of the profound impact of the arts, but also an affirmation of our collective responsibility to nurture and celebrate our cultural legacy.

"From traditional dance performances to contemporary art exhibitions, from folklore to modern music, this festival will be a platform to showcase the incredible talent and creativity that exists within our communities,” he said.

The deputy minister added that the festival would serve as a bridge to connect and promote people from all walks of life. “By embracing the different cultures and traditions within our nation, we can build a more inclusive society where every voice is heard and every culture is respected," he said.
