Nana Oye Bampoe Addo celebrates cultural heritage with Ghanaians in Vienna

A Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration) at the Presidency, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, has urged Ghanaians in the diaspora to uphold solidarity, support one another and contribute to development projects.

She made the call at the Vienna International Centre in Vienna, Austria, on the margins of the First Resumed Sixteenth Session of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) Implementation Review Group (IRG) and the Open-Ended Intergovernmental Working Group on the Prevention of Corruption, recently.

The occasion also marked the enstoolment of the Vienna Hemaa (Gyaase Hemaa) and Adonten Hemaa of Austria.

She congratulated Asanteman Austria and the newly enstooled Hemaa, emphasising the importance of leadership, unity and service within Ghanaian tradition.

Embrace heritage

She praised the diaspora’s active involvement in Austria and their contributions to Ghanaian and Austrian communities, encouraging the youth to embrace their heritage and look to the future with ambition and a spirit of service.

She praised the Asanteman Austria Executive Council and Ghana’s Ambassador to Austria, Matilda Alomatu Osei-Agyeman, for their commitment to the community.

Ms Bampoe Addo urged everyone present to reaffirm their dedication to Ghanaian values, including respect for tradition, unity in diversity and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

Mrs Osei-Agyeman emphasised that the Constitution of Ghana guarantees every individual the right to enjoy, practise, profess, maintain and promote any culture, language, tradition or religion, subject to the provisions of the Constitution.

She remarked that this implies that both chieftaincy and broader cultural practices are constitutionally protected.

She noted that chieftaincy was recognised as the guardian of customary values and norms, and therefore, the constitution detailed its establishment, roles and jurisdictions.

Accordingly, the Embassy of Ghana was honoured to welcome the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidency to the event.
