President Mahama returns from 3-nation tour

President John Dramani Mahama returned to Ghana Wednesday after a three-day tour of Angola, Kenya and Tanzania, where he engaged in separate bilateral discussions and participated in key regional meetings.

The acting Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, at a media briefing in Accra yesterday after the presidential jet touched the airport tarmac, said President Mahama's visit to Angola focused on deepening ties between Ghana and Angola, as well as exploring areas of mutual cooperation for economic benefits.

The President then headed to Kenya, where he attended an event on African Union Institutional Reform, emphasising the need for deep-seated reforms to improve the benefits of regional integration for hundreds of millions of Africans.

Energy

In Tanzania, President Mahama participated in an energy summit organised by the World Bank, African Development Bank, and Rockefeller Foundation, among others.

The summit aimed to extend access to energy in underserved African areas.

"Ghana has made significant strides in energy access, with about 83 per cent of our citizens having access to electricity," Mr Ofosu said.

He said there were countries at the summit who disclosed that they had between anything from 12 per cent to 19 per cent access to electricity.

Mr Ofosu said President Mahama shared Ghana's experiences and strategies for overcoming energy challenges, advising against past mistakes and reaffirming Ghana's commitment to expanding energy access.
