SDA Church kick-starts 75th anniversary celebration in northern Ghana
The Northern Ghana Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church has launched its 75th Anniversary Celebration with a call on the youth to dedicate themselves to the service of God and contribute to community development.
Held on the theme “Advancing Faith, Transforming Communities,” the six-month-long celebration aims to reflect on God’s faithfulness, unite past and present members, engage the wider community and partner stakeholders through activities focused on worship, social impact and legacy-building.
As part of the event, the church presented some motorbikes to church workers to support evangelism activities in remote areas.
Speaking at the launch, the President of the North Ghana Mission of the SDA, George Kossi-Ekao Amouzou, highlighted the church’s contribution over the past 75 years in promoting spiritual growth, education, healthcare and social transformation across northern Ghana and beyond.
He announced plans to establish a multipurpose Women’s Training Centre at Wayamba, a community in the Sagnarigu Municipality.
The initiative, he said, aimed at empowering women with vocational skills, promoting self-reliance and reducing poverty.
“This centre will serve not only women in the church, but all women in the community. We want to create a network of empowered women who can support each other in building a better northern Ghana,” he stated.
Pastor Amouzou recounted the church’s role in expanding access to education and healthcare in the region.
He pointed out that over the years, it had established more than 30 lower basic schools and 14 upper basic schools in northern Ghana, in addition to overseeing the Tamale campus of the Valley View University (VVU).
He further mentioned that the Tamale SDA Hospital and the SDA Clinic in Wa were part of the church’s healthcare mission for decades.
The Chairman of the Planning Committee, Osei Kwaku, praised the dedication of past and present members of the church and outlined activities planned for the celebration.
These include homecoming events, fundraising, health screenings and blood donation exercises.
“These activities will take place in selected villages across the Northern Region where our presence and services are most needed,” he said.
He encouraged church members and the public to join in the festivities, which would climax on October 4, 2025.
