Softcare leads anti-period shame campaign, donates sanitary products to women

Softcare FM Manufacturing Company has commemorated this year’s International Menstrual Hygiene Day with a campaign to drum home the critical role of youth-led leadership in driving community wellness and creating safe spaces for open, shame-free conversations about menstrual dignity.

The campaign, which was on the theme “Period Friendly World”, was in partnership with the Women's Commissioner of the Takoradi Technical University (TTU).

It featured a series of educational campaigns across Takoradi, where Softcare donated premium sanitary pads to vulnerable women and children to empower them as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.

Commitment

Speaking on the sidelines of the campaign, the Managing Director, Michael Kofi Baako, said that as the pacesetter in the baby diaper and the sanitary pad markets in Africa in terms of production volume, the company was committed to supporting initiatives that had a positive impact on the community and the environment.

“As an ISO certified company for Quality Management, we have proven to be more than just a brand, a titan for high-quality assurance of protecting the dignity of women and children globally, while remaining the game changer in Ghana’s household and personal care markets, as well as covering over 30 countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia.

“In Ghana, Softcare has the capacity to produce about 7 million packs monthly and deliver consistent supply at scale, at a competitive price, with more than 1000 employees, 90 per cent being locals, most of them women,” he said.

He added that the company’s contribution to the local economy went beyond products and generosity by remaining fully tax-compliant and contributing millions of Ghana cedis to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) since its operations, making it a dependable partner in national development.

Regulations

The company, Mr Baako said, had also strived to maintain consistent product quality, environmentally responsible operations, and safe working environments, while complying with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and Ghana Standard Authority (GSA) regulatory requirements, reflecting its dedication to producing safe, high-quality hygiene products for global consumers.

Owing to its achievements, the company has consistently received awards from the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), including Best Industrial Company and Best Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Company.
