The Tema Development Corporation (TDC) has announced plans to construct 200 affordable housing units for workers in Ho.
“The project will definitely take off before the end of this year, and be completed within 24 months,” the Managing Director of TDC, Courage K.M. Nunekpeku, said.
He explained that the project was in line with TDC’s extended mandate to provide housing units to workers in the country.
Mr Nunekpeku said that when he led a team from the corporation to pay a courtesy call on the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, Togbe Afede XIV, at his private mansion in Ho last Wednesday.
He said the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources had already made 1,800 acres of land available for the project just at the outskirts of Ho, adding that each housing unit would have two bedrooms.
Mr Nunekpeku said similar projects would be carried out later in other regions as well.
A Director of the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, Ebenezer Sam, said there was a large number of professionals in the public sector, and students of tertiary institutions in the Ho municipality who needed decent accommodation.
Housing deficit
He said the project would address the housing deficit, besides creating jobs for the teeming youth in the municipality.
Togbe Afede described the project as highly gratifying, with the promise of lifting Ho to greater development and heights.
“This is even more so, as it coincides with the Big Push roads project in the Volta Region, which will also lead to development in communities along the roads,” he added.
He expressed the hope that the project would take advantage of the readily available labour in the municipality to complete the housing units on schedule.
Togbe Afede said the pilot training school, which was about to be established in Ho, would also benefit from the housing units.
The Agbogbomefia described the project as a bold vision to tackle the housing deficit and gave an assurance that the traditional rulers of Asogli would support the project in various ways to ensure its smooth implementation and completion.
