UDS Centre for Gender, Career Mentorship receives book donation
A Former Director of the Social Development Policy Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Emerita Professor Takyiwaa Manuh, has donated a number of reading materials to the Centre for Gender and Career Mentorship at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale.
The books span a wide range of topics, including academic freedom, globalisation, African studies, African migration, gender activism and feminism.
At the handover ceremony of the materials, Emerita Prof. Manuh said the gesture was in fulfilment of a promise she made during a recent event at the university where she served as a guest speaker.
"As a development-focused university, UDS is uniquely positioned to champion gender equality and equity in Ghana and beyond.
I have always believed that establishing a Gender Centre at UDS was long overdue, and I am pleased to contribute to its growth by donating these books,” she said.
While commending the university for institutionalising gender equality initiatives, she expressed the hope that the learning materials would empower the centre to make a meaningful impact.
Receiving the books on behalf of the Centre, the Director of the Centre for Gender and Career Mentorship, Dr Esther Ekua Amoako, expressed gratitude for the gesture, saying the books would significantly enrich the resources at the centre and support research, teaching and advocacy on gender equality and related fields.
