A Deputy Director of the University Affairs Committee of the Zhejian Normal University in China,  Prof. Zhang Genfu, has urged African countries to use China's anti corruption strategies as a model to deal with corruption.

He said as part of the measures, Africa should limit the powers of leaders and severely punish officials found guilty of graft.

"African governments can learn a lot from how China deals with corruption. The power of leaders must be curtailed and devolved to the grassroots.

“Secondly, there must be law-based governance which every individual, irrespective of the powers they wield, must respect.

“More importantly, violators of the law must be severely punished to deter others," Prof. Genfu added.

The deputy director was speaking at the opening of a training programme for 30 journalists and heads of media organisations from 10 African countries in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province, China.
