World Vision Ghana (WVG) has signed a memorandum of understanding with six other strategic partners to roll out a three-year project aimed at transforming households.
The partners are VisionFund Ghana, Farm Concern International, Ghana Commodity Exchange, Fairtrade Africa, Pangea Africa and Esoko.
Known as Transforming Household Resilience in Vulnerable Environments (THRIVE 2030), the project aims to strengthen household resilience, increase incomes and promote sustainable livelihoods through inclusive market systems and access to knowledge.
The MoU, which was signed at a ceremony at the WVG office in Accra yesterday , formalised a collaboration to drive inclusive and innovative approaches in economic empowerment, climate resilience, digital transformation, and capacity building in rural and peri-urban communities across the country.
Mindset
The Programme Manager of THRIVE 2030, Justice Tiiga, in an interview, said the THRIVE 2030 sought to first transform the mindset of the people so they can develop their household business plans as well as how they would progress out of poverty.
Mr Tiiga said, “Over the years, we have been working with these farmers and producer groups to help them maximise their profit, but there has been a gap, in the sense that you start introducing a programme without first of all working on the people's mindset”.
In that sense, he said, WVG adopted the THRIVE 2030 programme in 2024 and “We are working to end it in 2027.”
For this year, he said, “We are expected to reach out to 160,000 households across 14 districts in seven different administrative regions which are Upper East, Upper West, Northern, Savannah, Ashanti, Western North and Bono East.”
Mr Tiiga said these were the areas that THRIVE 2030 was working in and that the expectations were that in the three years, at least over 400,000 participants would be able to double their income.
Commitment
The interim National Director of World Vision Ghana, Jean-Claude Mukadi, who addressed the ceremony, said the endorsement of the MoU was a demonstration of the commitment to build resilient communities in the country.
“We believe that our collective efforts will lead to increased income, profitability and overall impact.
We are confident that, together, we can progress into a world which includes resilience and livelihood for the many families we serve,” Mr Mukadi assured.
