Ghana, South Sudan sign agreement

Ghana and South Sudan have signed an agreement to enhance co-operation between them in diverse areas.

The areas include trade, education, health, agriculture, mining and technical co-operation.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ms Hanna Serwaah Tetteh, and her South Sudanese counterpart, Barnaba Marial Benjamin, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective countries on the sidelines of the 24th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Implementation 

A statement from the Flagstaff House said the ministers pledged to work towards the full implementation of the agreement on the basis of agreed priorities.

" The South Sudanese Foreign Minister stated that his country was particularly, interested in education, health and mining," the statement said.

It said those were areas where Ghana had considerable experience.

According to the statement, Ms Tetteh welcomed the proposal and expressed Ghana’s readiness to share her experience with South Sudan.

She took the opportunity to brief her counterpart on the availability of universities, colleges of education, nurses training colleges and several other institutions of higher learning which were capable of offering the needed support to South Sudan to develop human resources in the selected sectors.

Present at the signing ceremony were Ghana’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr Albert Yankey, who is concurrently accredited to South Sudan, the Director of the Africa Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Mr Sena Siaw-Boateng, and other officials.
