Mahama holds talks with President of Cape Verde

President John Dramani Mahama has held a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the African Union (AU) Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

He held bilateral talks with his counterpart from Cape Verde, President Jorge Carlos Fonseca.

A statement from the Flagstaff House said the two leaders discussed a number of issues, including economic and technical cooperation.

The President, who had a tight schedule, at the summit, also met with the United States (US) Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs.

He also chaired a meeting with the AU High Level Committee on African Trade, of which he is the Chairperson.

The meeting adopted a number of decisions, including the implementation of a continental free trade area and a short-term plan for boosting intra-African trade. 

"President Mahama is expected to present the committee's report to the main assembly for adoption," the statement added.

President Mahama, in his capacity as Chair of the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government, also chaired a meeting of the sub-regional grouping.
