Bullet: I recently paid $100,000 of Ebony’s royalties to her father

The CEO of RuffTown Records, Bullet, has revealed that he recently paid $100,000 to the father of late Ghanaian musician Ebony Reigns as part of the artiste’s music royalties.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM with Nana Romeo, Bullet explained that the amount represented 50 per cent of Ebony’s royalties, despite an earlier agreement that allegedly allocated only 20 per cent to the singer.

According to him, Ebony’s father requested an increase in the royalty share following the artiste’s death.

“I recently gave Ebony’s father $100,000, which is 50 per cent of Ebony’s royalties. Ebony was entitled to 20 per cent shares, but her father made me increase it to 50 per cent,” he said.

Bullet further stated that after organising Ebony’s first memorial event, her father asked him to release funds belonging to the late singer.

“After we did Ebony’s first party, he said I should give his daughter’s money to him. The money was meant to promote and campaign for Ebony’s work, but I went with him to the bank and withdrew it for him. He doesn’t talk about it anywhere,” he added.

Despite the ongoing public criticism from Ebony’s father, Bullet said he had chosen not to speak publicly about the issue until now.

The relationship between Bullet and Ebony’s father has reportedly remained tense since the musician’s death in 2018, with disputes over royalties, management and the preservation of the singer’s legacy frequently attracting public attention.

Born Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, Ebony Reigns died in a road accident on the Sunyani-Kumasi highway on February 8, 2018, at age 20.

She gained nationwide fame with hit songs including Sponsor, Kupe, Maame Hwɛ and Poison, and is still regarded as one of Ghana’s most celebrated female musicians.

In 2018, she posthumously won the Artiste of the Year award at the Ghana Music Awards.
