Asankragua, Samreboi, Enchi among dozens of Western Region communities facing ECG maintenance on Saturday
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has scheduled planned maintenance in the Western Region for Saturday, May 16, 2026, even as engineers continue to battle multiple power outages caused by a faulty transformer, a burnt transformer, and broken poles that plunged several communities in the Western and Central Regions into darkness on Friday.
According to an advisory issued by the power distributor, the planned maintenance in the Western Region will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, affecting a broad list of communities including Abotereye, Hiawa, Nkakaa, Manso Amenfi, Bonuama, Akyeretyre, Anakum, Ohiamatoe, Gyaman, Asankragua, Breman, Moseaso, Odumase, Wassa Dunkwa, Mumuni, Samreboi, M-T-N, Enchi, Kwesi Larbi, Kwesi Boko, Mota, and surrounding areas.
These scheduled interventions come as the ECG continues to manage the aftermath of multiple network faults on Friday, 15th May 2026.
Faulty transformer hits Western Region communities
In the Western Region, a faulty transformer at Kwameniampa disrupted power to Genser Energy, Bwami, Kwameniampa, Brakwa Line, Odumase, Juabeng, Akorbediaburo, Bepon, Ehyireso, Anlonkwanta, Bawdie, Adamanso, Ankonsia, Asikuma, Wassa Akropong, Adesu, Afransie, Abresia, Adiemmra, Donpoase, Nanako, Nkonya, and surrounding areas. Engineers were deployed to rectify the fault and restore supply.
Burnt transformer, broken poles hit Central Region
In the Central Region, a burnt transformer at Official Town in Twifo Praso left Official Town and surrounding areas without power. The ECG confirmed that engineers were working to rectify the fault.
Additionally, broken poles at Akweley Credit Union Junction caused outages affecting Akweley Credit Union, Chapel Square, Ideal College, and surrounding areas.
In its public notices, the ECG extended its apologies to all affected customers, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by both the scheduled maintenance and the unplanned faults.
The company reassured the public that engineers are working diligently to resolve all network issues while emphasising that the planned exercises are necessary to ensure the long-term robustness of the power network across the regions.
