Government declares May 27 as public holiday to mark Eid-Ul-Adha

The Ministry of the Interior has declared Wednesday, May 27, 2026, a statutory public holiday in commemoration of Eid-Ul-Adha.

According to a statement issued by the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, the day marks the annual Islamic festival.

Eid-Ul-Adha, also known as the "Festival of Sacrifice," is one of the two most important Islamic holidays celebrated by Muslims worldwide.

The festival commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. It coincides with the completion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

The Ministry of the Interior extended greetings to the Muslim community in Ghana and urged all citizens to use the occasion to pray for peace and development in the nation.
