As part of the preparations towards the event, the Minister for Transport, Mrs Dzifa Attivor, has led a high-powered eight-member delegation of the 2014 AIRSHOW Local Organising Committee to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), to have  a deep insight into what the whole thing is about.

The host, Mr Yusuf Hamadi, Chairman of the International Centre of Excellence (ICE), a privately owned establishment serving a wide spectrum of international aviation training, e-learning, IT solutions and consultancy needs conducted the delegation round the various stalls and the delegation also witnessed the display of aircraft and paratroopers.

The delegation was also taken through some presentations on how best to sustain the aviation sector and to prepare the youth for the future of the sector.

Mrs Attivor also visited the Dubai Ports (DP World) as a follow up to President John Dramani Mahama's visit to Dubai in December last year.

The minister spoke of the congestion at the Tema Port and the idea of reducing it to create a conducive environment for customers, especially on issues of demurrage.

She said bids had been received from interested companies, and that the GPHA was going through the process to select the successful one for the first phase of the port expansion project which involved dredging and reclamation.

Works, according to Mrs Attivor, were underway for reclamation of the Takoradi Port, saying Ghana was determined to maintain her status of being the gateway to Africa.

She did not hide her excitement at the news that a delegation from DP World would visit Ghana this month.

In a short a presentation, the Chairman of DP World, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, said Dubai started marketing itself in 1985 by inviting companies to come and do their manufacturing and marketing in the country and as of 2010, more than 8,500 shipping lines were into door-to-door shipping.

He said they opened their doors by inviting ideas and contributions from customers to enable them to provide the best customer service.

Sultan Sulayer explained further that DP World was currently the third largest operator of ports in the world and this had been achieved by using the latest technologies, focusing on the emerging markets, investing in technology, people and facilities.

He reiterated that everything  was designed by their local engineering team and with that they were able to learn from their mistakes.
