The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has donated a collection of climate change-related books to the Balme Library at the University of Ghana (UG).
The donation, which took place at the Balme Library at UG in Accra last Tuesday, included more than 10 books and reports aimed at supporting research and education on climate change in the country.

The donation includes books on climate change mitigation and adaptation, climate change and sustainable development, and climate change and human health.
They are “Climate Change 2022 Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability; The Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate; Climate Change 2022 Mitigation of Climate Change; Climate Change and Land and Climate Change 2021 The Physical Science Basis” among others
It also included a range of publications, including the IPCC's Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) and the Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C (SR15).
Rationale
In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the Vice Chairperson of IPCC Working Group One, Professor Nana Ama Brown Klutse, who doubles as a Lecturer and Head of the Physics Department at UG, said the donation was part of the organisation's efforts to support climate change research and education at the university.
Prof. Klutse emphasised the importance of climate change research and education in Ghana.
The climate change specialist indicated that climate change is a global problem that requires a global response, hence, the need for the IPCC as a UN organisation to support and continue to collaborate with other vital institutions to contribute to climate change research and education.

Appreciation
In her remarks, the Head of Acquisition and Senior Assistant Librarian at the Balm Library, Emelia A. O. Agyei, expressed gratitude to the IPCC for the donation.
"We are grateful to the IPCC for this generous donation. These books and reports will be a valuable resource for our students and faculty, and will support our research and education efforts on climate change," she said.
Ms Agyei said the donation would provide valuable resources for students, faculty and researchers, and would help support the country’s efforts to address the challenges of climate change.
Ms Agyei added that she would process the books as soon as possible and make them available for use by all who were passionate about climate change studies and research.
