GOIL holds fire training for staff

GOIL, the nation’s indigenous oil marketing company, has held a two-day training programme for over 100 station supervisors and national service persons at the Ghana National Fire Academy & Training School at Korle Gonno in Accra.

Addressing the opening session, the Managing Director of GOIL, Mr Patrick Akorli, stated: “We at GOIL will continue to implement, maintain and improve a company-wide quality management system based on the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 9001 requirement. Our quality policy statement shall be achieved with the active involvement of our professionally qualified, highly-skilled, well-trained and motivated staff.”

He added that it was against this backdrop that the training programme was held to enable the staff to deliver their duties safely.

The Director of Operations of the Ghana National Fire Service, Mr W. J. Mensah said he was happy that GOIL had taken an important step to provide fire training for its workers and urged other oil marketing companies to organise similar programmes for their staff.

The training programme was attended by the Commandant of the Ghana National Fire Academy & Training School, Mr Ebenezer Simpson; the Health, Safety & Environment Manager of GOIL, Mr Kofi Nyarko; the Zonal Manager-South, Mr Marcus Dakeh; the Compliance Manager, Mr Joseph Adongo, and other top management officials from GOIL.

The participants were taken through response to incidents, safe discharge of products and the use of safety gears such as safety boots, gloves, nose masks, goggles and the proper handling of fire extinguishers.
