Government to establish rural telephony sites and coding centres in Dagbon – Sam George
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced that the Ministry, through the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), will establish new rural telephony sites within the Dagbon Kingdom to improve communication and support business activities.
He said the initiative forms part of government’s broader plan to enhance digital infrastructure and promote inclusive connectivity across all regions.
Mr George further disclosed that computer centres will be established in various communities under President John Dramani Mahama’s “One Million Coder Project,” which seeks to train young people in digital skills, coding, and innovation to prepare them for future technological opportunities.
“There’s a lot that’s coming to Dagbon from the Ministry of Communication,” Mr George assured, reaffirming the government’s commitment to extending digital empowerment to every part of the country.
The Minister made these remarks during a courtesy call on the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, at his residence in Accra.
The Overlord of Dagbon expressed appreciation for the government’s plans, commending the Minister for his efforts toward advancing national development through technology. He also offered prayers for divine wisdom and strength to enable the Minister to fulfil his duties successfully.
Mr George reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with traditional authorities to achieve the digital transformation goals of the Dagbon Kingdom.
