Govt committed to quality education for Ghanaian children — President Mahama
The government is committed to the realisation of full and complete access to quality education for all Ghanaian children, President John Dramani Mahama has said.
He stated that the massive investment being made in education would ensure that every Ghanaian child, including the ones in the remotest parts of the country, received quality education to prepare them for a better future.
President Mahama made the remarks when he inaugurated the 7th community day senior high school at Abease in the Pru District in the Brong Ahafo Region last Wednesday as part of his ‘Accounting to the People’ tour of the region.
It was the second of his flagship educational project to be completed and inaugurated in the region; the first being the Derma Community SHS.
The E-shaped 4-level structure has 24 classrooms, four laboratories, two libraries, eight offices for departmental heads, an ICT laboratory and an Internet working area, as well as offices for the headmaster and staff.
Excitement
The school comes as a huge relief to the people of the area who believe that it will help address the educational challenges of not only Abease but the entire district.
There was, therefore, excitement in the town as hundreds of people attended the function.
Statistics
According to the 2010 Population Census, 50.4 per cent of the population of the district were literate.
The proportion of literate males was higher (56.8 per cent) than that of females (43.2 per cent).
President Mahama said the government would give equal opportunities to all Ghanaians, no matter where they found themselves, to access quality education.
He urged the local communities to take interest in the running of the new community day senior high schools.
He said the schools were built for them so they should "own" them.
Techiman SHS
Earlier in the day, the President inaugurated a classroom complex for the Techiman Senior High School.
The project was funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund ( GETFund).

President Mahama announced measures to stop the delay in completing GETFund school projects .
He said the GETFund was slowing down on new projects to allow for the completion of old projects that suffered delays.
Techiman palace
Speaking during a courtesy call on the Techimanhene, President Mahama said development projects provided by the government in the Techiman area were a manifestation of the quest to uplift the standard of living of the people.
