Farmer charged for murder

The Odumase Krobo Circuit Court, presided over by Frank Gbeddy, has provisionally charged a 24-year-old farmer, Kwasi Ofosu, for murder.

He has, therefore, been remanded into prison custody to reappear at a later date.

The facts of the case as presented by the prosecutor, ASP Richmond Akwasi Yeboah, were that the complainant was the chief of Nanyor near Boso in the Asuogyaman District while Ofosu, also a construction labourer, lived in the same town.

The deceased, Samuel Kwabena Addo, 40, was a farmer and also a native of the town.

According to prosecution, on December 11, 2015, at about 1:30 p.m., while the chief and the people were celebrating their annual Odwira Festival at the town’s community centre, a misunderstanding ensued between Addo and two others, Okai Kwabena Asante and Kwabena Ntow.

ASP Yeboah said in the process Addo slapped Okai and Ntow, making Okai to fall down.

ASP Yeboah said Ofosu went there to separate them but in the process Addo also fell and became unconscious.

All efforts to revive him proved futile. He was, therefore, rushed to the Peki Government Hospital where he later died while receiving treatment.

The prosecutor said during police investigations, Addo’s son who was at the scene, mentioned Ofosu as the one who hit the father with a blow which landed him on the ground.
