Emmanuel Yaw Owusu, a security man at the Church of Pentecost, Anyaa Central Assembly in Accra, has, therefore, been remanded in police custody by the Accra Circuit Court and will reappear before the court on April 13, 2016, for sentencing.

The pastors are Rt Rev. Dr Nana Anyani Boadum, the General Overseer of the Jesus Generation Ministries, Bishop Prince S. Baah, the Presiding Bishop of the Calvary Crusaders Ministries,  Rev. Christopher Marfo Ahenkorah, the General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church, and Bishop Samuel Noi Mensah, the Presiding Bishop of the Full Gospel Church International.

The four are also executive members of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC).

Diaries

When asked by the prosecution about how he got the contacts of the pastors, Owusu, who appeared in court without a lawyer, informed the court that he got the contacts from the 2014 and 2015 diaries of the Church of Pentecost.

“I found the diaries at the church where I work,” he said.

The four ministers of the gospel, who were also in the courtroom, however, disputed this and told the court that they also had the same diaries but their contacts were not listed in the said diaries.

The court, presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, therefore, ordered the prosecution to make the said diaries available to the court.

Facts

The facts of the case as presented by the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Ofori Amanfo, were that the four pastors received text messages on March 23, 2016 from a Vodafone number, 0200381608 which stated, “We are armed robbers. We demand GH¢5,000 from you and your church or we eliminate you and your family as well as 5,000 members of your church. Send it or action.’’

He added that Owusu was arrested by the police on April 1, 2016, after he had agreed to meet an undercover agent to collect the money.
