Institute sets up board to run human resource fund

The Institute of Human Resource Management Practitioners (IHRMP) has inaugurated a five-member board of trustees to oversee the activities of the Human Resource (HR) Development Fund.

The purpose for establishing the fund is to solicit money to facilitate the construction of an ultra-modern HR complex.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Graphic at the inaugural ceremony in Accra last Thursday, the President of the IHRMP, Mr John Wilson, said the fund was established to be independent of the Institute’s account.

“A separate fund was necessary, so it can be well-managed and accounted for,” he said.

Explaining the need for the fund, Mr Wilson said it was purposely for the construction of the HR Complex and, therefore, the institute deemed it fit to also form a board of trustees to ensure the growth and development of the fund.

“The Board of trustees will ensure that the fund succeeds and they will also be accountable for every amount that goes into it,” he said.

He said the target of the institute was to raise US$5 million in three years for the construction of the facility, adding that the Board would be responsible for generating that amount.

He was of the view that the building would facilitate an easier and a more accessible HR practice and added that a lot of money had been spent on rent at their current office.

The new building would include lecture rooms and a hostel facility that will enable the training of students and also allow those outside of Accra, who wish to go through the training, to get access to accommodation.

Chairman’s response

In response, the board chairman, Mr Daniel Asiedu, said the board would make sure that the management of the fund was done prudently for the benefit of members and corporate Ghana.

He stated that it was only prudent in a competitive world for the institute to construct an edifice to suit its growth and expansion.

“It is not surprising that one of the key programmes on the institute’s agenda is to put up an ultra-modern complex for HR practitioners, looking at how competitive the world is now,” he said.

He was optimistic that the institution’s vision would come into fruition with proper management and accountability.
