He said once terrorism had become sophisticated, transcending borders, it demanded concerted efforts by all countries to fight it.

Delegation
President Mahama made the call when the Israeli Foreign Minister, Mr Avigdor Liberman, led a delegation of government officials and businessmen from Israel to call on the President at the Flagstaff House yesterday.

The Israeli delegation had been in the country since June 15 to build on bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as explore business opportunities in Ghana.

Ghanaian-Israeli relations, which date back to over 50 years, are strong in agriculture and security.

The call on the President was also meant to seek the support of Ghana for Israel’s request to the African Union (AU) for re-admission to AU meetings as an observer.

Nigeria/Mali situation
President Mahama noted that the terrorist activities in Mali and north eastern Nigeria were not a treat to the people of the two countries and West Africa alone but, to a larger extent, the entire world.

The situation, he said, demanded the support of the rest of the world in fighting it.
Pointing out that no single country had a  solution to the threat of terrorism, he said, "There is the need for a global alliance to confront it."

Israel experience
On agriculture, President Mahama gave an assurance that everything would be done  to strengthen relations in that area.

He mentioned irrigation as one important area where Ghana needed the necessary support to advance its efforts.

He also stated the need to implement to the fullest the memorandum of understanding Ghana signed with Israel in agriculture and fisheries.

President Mahama said as Ghana moved to increase food production to meet local consumption and for export, it needed such cooperation and collaboration to achieve results.

He expressed delight that the collaboration with Israel had also yielded positive results with the construction of a 600-bed capacity teaching hospital at Legon.

He described Israel as a true partner in development and said Ghana would continue to build on the relations between the two countries.

Israeli minister
Mr Liberman noted the efforts of the Ghana government in advancing the country' development and said the government of Israel was willing to share its expertise in irrigation and related areas.

He consequently called for increased engagements and discussions between the two countries on how to build on the successes chalked up so far.

Mr Liberman mentioned the tremendous contribution Ghanaian troops had made to the Middle East peacekeeping process and commended the Ghana Government for that.
