At a special ceremony to recognise key contributors to efforts at keeping the city clean in 2014, Ms Juliana Kankam was adjudged the best Permanent Revenue Collector while Mr Alex K. Ofori was named the best Commission Revenue Collector.
In separate citations accompanying the awards, the sub-metro acknowledged their dedication to duty and perseverance in ensuring that debts owed the sub-metro were retrieved.
The awardees’ work was considered to be exemplary considering the fact that they were able to cover all the nine electoral areas and 21 communities in Nhyiaeso regarded as one of the largest sub-metros in Kumasi.
The two were part of a contingent of a revenue taskforce set up by the Administrator of the Nhyiaeso Sub-Metro, Mrs Deborah Okra, in November last year, to collect all outstanding debts owed the division.
According to Mrs Okrah, several programmes and projects were rolled out to strengthen the local government system which ultimately had benefitted the revenue collection units.
She said measures had been put in place to build the capacities of workers of the KMA in general in order to enhance the output of the assembly.
The Public Relations Officer of the KMA, Mr Godwin Okumah Nyame, dispelled rumours that the first-ever Christmas tree erected by the KMA in the city centre cost $19,000.
The tree, he said, was a donation from a group of Chinese partners to the assembly.
