L’Oreal provides Abokobi with multi-purpose facility
The Abokobi Health Post in the Greater Accra Region has a multi-purpose structure donated by L’Oreal West Africa, a subsidiary of the global beauty company, L’Oreal, to be used to provide antenatal counselling for women in the community.
Equipped with furniture and computers, the structure, designed to seat up to 120 people will also serve as the location for community health communication.
The donation was made by the company as part of its Citizen’s Day. The day is set aside annually, where L’Oreal employees in all the 130 countries where it operates undertake activities aimed at giving back to the community.
Support to the community
The Director of Health Services for the Ga East District, Dr Julius Dadebo, welcomed the contribution by the organisation to support the community, and expressed the hope that it would limit the need for women to travel long distances to seek care for maternal health issues.
“If you are able to counsel women, they have no option but to come. Now women in the community can get the services they need”, he said
The Managing Director for L’Oréal West Africa, Mr Idorenyen Enang, said the company had a strong focus on corporate social responsibility, “so we are excited to begin this project, and as we go on we want to measure progress and move the need into other forms of empowerment for this community”.
After the ceremony, staff of the company spent the day cleaning up the surrounding environment.
