The La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) has established a client service unit to receive suggestions on the direction of development in the municipality and to ensure transparency in its operations.

The unit will also receive complaints about officials of the assembly and on development issues in the communities within the municipality.

The move is to improve upon the service delivery standards of the assembly and furnish stakeholders with information on how it operates, give them easy access to adequate and timely information on decisions and actions taken by the assembly.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Accra, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of LaDMA, Ms Rita Odoley Sowah, said to ensure transparency, the assembly had also set up a procurement committee to ensure that all procurement activities were carried out in conformity with the Public Procurement Act.

The town hall meeting provided a platform for residents in the municipality to interact with officials of the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly and for the officials to inform the people of the assembly’s programmes and activities.

Developmental projects

She said although the assembly was barely three years old, it had embarked on massive development projects with the aim of making LaDMA a model assembly in the Greater Accra Region, the country and the West African sub-region.

Ms Sowah said the assembly was very mindful of its responsibilities to the people in the municipality and that the reason for its existence was to improve upon the residents’ socio-economic activities by providing them with basic social amenities.

She mentioned that the assembly’s activities were evident in projects and programmes in all the sectors of the economy such as education, health, sanitation, economic empowerment and the maintenance of peace and security.

Maximum standards

The MCE said the assembly was mandated by law to deliver a minimum level of standards approved by the Local Government Service and involve relevant stakeholders including civil society organisations, the media, non-governmental organisations, the traditional council, the private sector and community members in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the services it delivered to the people.

Ms Sowah announced that henceforth the administration would update and display monthly revenue and expenditure charts on the assembly’s notice boards and at other vantage points for the people to scrutinise them.

She indicated that the assembly was convinced that when the people were involved in the fixing of fees, fines and rates, they would accept them since they would know what their money was being used for.

She said in 2016, the expectations of the assembly were that it would embark on more physical development projects in the municipality.

Use of resources

The MCE indicated that the most important delivery standard involved the efficient and optimal use of resources, including time, human, financial and natural resources, among other resources, to provide services and products that would satisfy the requirement of users in a timely manner.

She since the assembly was young and mindful of the fact that its resources were limited and must be used to serve a larger number of people, all its official vehicles had been labelled and were to be used for official purposes only.

She said in the procurement of goods and services, the assembly had been very mindful of the Public Procurement Act and would do its best to ensure that financial transactions were done in line with the Financial Administration Act.

Ms Sowah said there was the need to properly demarcate the boundary between La and Teshie to prevent any misunderstanding between the two municipalities.
