Grandmother seeks support for triplets

Beatrice Tetteh, 57, a former kenkey seller, is appealing to the general public for financial assistance to support the upkeep of her grandchildren, 10-year-old triplets Peter, Paul, and Pearl Kotey, who are pupils of Odorkor Salaria One Basic School.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic on behalf of their grandmother, their aunt, Gladys Nee Kuaye, 36, who accompanied them, said it had not been easy for the grandmother to cater for the children since she had no source of income.

Although the parents of the children are alive and healthy, getting financial assistance from both of them is a struggle.

The children’s mother, Mabel Mensah, used to alternate between selling bofrot and sachet water to help their grandmother care for them during their early years.

However, she has not been seen for over a year, and her promises to send money home have proven futile.

Unemployed

Their father, Richard Nee Kuaye, 38, on the other hand, is unemployed and, according to Gladys who is his younger sister, he has made no attempts to help out. “He doesn’t take care of them.

His friends help find jobs for him, but he doesn’t go. I sometimes have to fight with him to find work.

This has been a constant issue since they were born.”

She added that it was initially their grandfather who mainly provided for the children until his death, which occurred after he fell from a height at work and hit his head.

Despite their aunt’s attempts to support their grandmother to take care of the three children, her meagre income from doing petty jobs was not enough.

“I play football, but it’s nothing professional to earn an income.

I, therefore, join some workers whenever there’s a job to do and I get something little from that.

Sometimes, GH¢50, sometimes a GH¢100. It’s not a lot of money for three children,” she explained.

Coupled with her monthly hospital visits to manage her blood pressure, their grandmother, says it had become nearly impossible to keep the children in school and provide for their daily needs.

She, therefore, appealed to the public, organisations, and individuals for financial support.
