While recognising the important role the 1992 Constitution and other laws of the land played, the Vice-President noted that the principles of the Holy Bible were not far removed from the laws of the country.

“It is only the Bible that can stand the test of time no matter the changes in times and periods,” he said.

He was speaking at a ceremony to commemorate the 50th anniversary celebration of the Bible Society of Ghana (BSG) in Accra.

Role of leaders

According to him, the Bible has charged leaders to be answerable to the people under their care, saying that leaders must not lord their positions on their followers.

“The first responsibility of leaders is to fulfil their responsibility to the people who placed them in authority.

Leaders must develop attitudes free from arrogance and adopt that of faithfulness and humility,” he added.

He noted that the word of God was replete with enough moral and ethical lessons that all leaders could learn and teach their followers.

Mr Amissah-Arthur further challenged leaders to do away with injustice, adding that “there is no justice when a few have so much to enjoy while many have little to live on”.

“The Bible encourages social justice, and that is the responsibility of leaders,’’ he added.

Live worthy lives

In a short exhortation, the Rector of the Akrofi-Christaller Institute, Rev Dr B.Y. Quarshie, admonished Christians to be worthy ambassadors of the faith.

Commenting on Anas Aremeyaw Anas’s recent judicial exposé, he asked the judges who had been implicated in the scandal to ask for God’s forgiveness and mercy.

Anniversary

The celebration brought together dignitaries from the clergy, the judiciary, legislature and representatives from the political divide. Special prayers were also said for the nation and the world at large.
