Speaking at the 2015 National May Day parade held at the Independence Square in Accra, the Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress ( TUC), Mr Kofi Asamoah  – who delivered a speech on behalf of Organised Labour- said ECG should be left alone to do its work.

“The attempts to privatise ECG or introduce private sector participation should not part of the solutions to the power crisis,” Mr Asamoah said.

According to him, government agencies and ministries only need to pay their electricity bills for ECG to be fine.

The TUC Secretary General asserted that privatisation had failed with the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and was not likely to work in the case of ECG.

He said companies that want to distribute power in the country should set up separately from the ECG.

Organised Labour also called on President John Mahama to immediately fix the power crisis, which the union said had led to the loss of jobs and businesses in the country.

Organised Labour comprises the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT),  National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG), Industrial and Commercial Service Union (ICU) and Judicial Services Staff Assiociation of Ghana (JUSAG.
