Let’s celebrate our successes - Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has asked Ghanaians to revel in the successes of the country, instead of over-concentrating on its challenges.

He said over the years Ghana had chalked up significant successes, for which reason the people should "count your blessings one after another".

"When we celebrate our success we will go forward and that is why I say count your blessings one by one and it will surprise you what the Lord has done," he said.

Speaking at the Good Friday Miracle Service of the Lighthouse Chapel International at the Black Star Square in Accra, the President also urged the people to take advantage of the enormous potential of the country.

“The country may have its own challenges, but no matter the challenges, the country has great potential but we the people need to come off the complaints about the challenges and take advantage of the potential," he said.

Self doubt

President Mahama spoke against self-doubt, saying it was counter-productive.

He said it was when the people built self-confidence that the problems facing the country could be addressed.

"When we cast aside our self-doubt, we will be able to make it. The greatest enemy is self-doubt. If you are afflicted with self-doubt, you cannot make it," he stated.

Choices

While emphasising the fact that leaders were often confronted with choices, the President said his interest was present and future progress.

In taking decisions on the choices available, he said, "more often than not the alternative may bring comfort today but a bigger adversity tomorrow".

"As a leader, you are the head of the family and you have dependents. You have to take difficult decisions in order that things can get better," he said.

Death of Jesus

Attempting to explain the Biblical significance of Good Friday, the President said although Christ suffered a painful death, it resulted in salvation for Christians.

"In death Jesus suffered adversity, but he saw the opportunity of salvation for you and me and he took it," he told the congregation.

Easter message

He prayed that Easter would signify a new beginning for the lives of Ghanaians.

"I  bring you a message of Easter. Easter marks the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. It also marks His sacrifice to save the rest of mankind. On behalf of the government and people,  I want to use the occasion of the Lighthouse Chapel Crusade to express my best wishes to Ghanaian Christians all over the country,” he said.

Commendation

He commended Men of God for the good work they were doing.

"We need to appreciate our Men of God because from experience I can tell you that the work they do is not easy at all and you need divine inspiration to do it," he said.

Bishop Heward-Mills

The Head of the church, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, commended the President for taking time to worship with the congregation.

He gave an assurance that the church would support the government to bring hope to the people.
