Loaded business for Parliament this week

Members of Parliament (MPs) have a loaded business to conduct this week as the House prepares to rise on Friday.

To enable the House to do more business, sittings shall be extended beyond the prescribed period during the week, according to the Business Committee.

Yesterday began with amendments to the Public Financial Management Bill, 2016.

Order paper

As captured on the order paper, a motion was expected to be moved for the House to approve GH¢1,888,203,387.00 as supplementary estimates for the 2016 financial year.

A motion was also expected to be moved for the approval of the President's nomination for deputy ministerial appointments.

The motion to approve of the former Executive Director of the West Africa Peace Building Network (WANEP), Mr Emmanuel Bombande, as the deputy minister designate for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration; a former District Chief Executive of Upper Manya, Mr Joseph Agmor Tetteh; and the Member of Parliament for Nkwanta North, Mr John Oti Bless, as deputy ministers designate for the Eastern Region and Local Government and Rural Development Ministry respectively, was consequently pushed to this week.

The Committee on Mines and Energy was billed to present its report on the Put/Call option agreement among the government, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Endeavor EPL Holdings Cooperatie, U.A., Sage Petroleum Limited, GE Ghana Energy Investments I.BV., Quantum Gas Terminal Limited and Early Power in respect of a 400 megawatts combined cycle gas turbine power plant in Tema by Early Power Limited.

Sports bill

The Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture was scheduled to present reports on the Sports Bill, 2016 and the Development and Classification of Film Bill, 2016 yesterday.

The Business Statement for the 12th week ending Friday, August 5, 2016, indicates that the Committee on Trade Industry and Tourism would submit its report on the Stepping Stone Economic Partnership Agreement between Ghana and the European Union and its member states to protect the future of Ghana's exports to the EU market.

The interception of Postal Packets and Telecommunication Messages Bill, 2015 and the Children's (Amendment) Bill are billed to go through the second reading stage today.

On Wednesday, the Technical Universities Bill, 2016, the Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Bill, 2016, and the Bank of Ghana Bill, 2016, are scheduled to go through the third reading.

On Thursday, the consideration of the Right to Information Bill, 2013, is billed to continue.

The Presidential  Transition  (Amendment) Bill, 2016, the Children's (Amendment) Bill, 2016, the Public Holidays (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and the Interception of Postal Packets and Telecommunication Messages Bill, 2016 are to go through the consideration stage.

And on Friday, motions are expected to be moved for the third reading of the Presidential  Transition  (Amendment) Bill, 2016, the Children's (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and the Interception of Postal Packets and Telecommunication Messages Bill, 2016.

A motion is also billed to be moved for the adoption of the report of the Committee of Privileges on the Manual on Ethics and Standards for MPs.
