Mahama appoints Edward Bawa as acting GNPC Chief Executive

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Edward Abambire Bawa as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), effective 17 January 2025.

The appointment is in line with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 10(2) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Act.

The final appointment will be confirmed following advice from the Minister for Energy, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.

A letter signed by Dr Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, formalised the appointment and conveyed the President's best wishes to Mr Bawa.

Mr Bawa until recently served as the Member of Parliament for the Bongo Constituency and brings valuable experience in Ghana's energy sector to his new position.

He has previously worked as Head of Communication for the World Bank's oil and gas capacity-building project at the Ministry of Petroleum in Accra.

He holds an MBA in Business Finance from the University of Liverpool and has completed postgraduate studies at the Harvard School of Public Health. Mr Bawa represented the Bongo Constituency in Parliament from 2017 to 2024.
