The convict, George Coffie, robbed the student of her mobile handset valued at GH¢2,000 and fled into a nearby bush.

Facts
Prosecuting, Chief Superintendent Duuti Tuereka told the court, presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh, that the complainant is a student of Methodist Senior High at Aburi, while the accused is unemployed, living at Dansoman in Accra.

He said on January 11, 2016, while the complainant was standing at a bus stop at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) junction, Legon, Coffie attacked her and forcibly snatched her Iphone 5 mobile handset valued at GH¢2,000.

Demands
According to Chief Supt Tuereka, the complainant called her mobile phone later in the day and pleaded with the accused, who had answered the call and agreed to return the phone to her.

The accused, however, demanded that the complainant deposit GH¢2,000 into his Tigo cash account before he would release the phone to her.

Desperate to get her phone back, the complainant offered to give Coffie her laptop in exchange for her phone.

She also made a complaint to the Legon Police.

On January 15, 2016, the police arrested Coffie after he had gone to meet the complainant for the exchange of the items.
