Prince Adu-Gyamfi, who had been arraigned, together with two accomplices before the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Circuit Court on charges of robbery and murder, disengaged himself from the handcuffs moments after coming out of the courtroom and escaped into the bushes around the Golden Tulip Kumasi City Hotel.

The fugitive, described by the police as a hardened criminal, was among a group of suspected armed men who attacked the Ashford Hotel at Bantama in Kumasi on May 20, 2013 and shot a security man dead.

Onlookers were stunned as the police made fruitless attempts to re-arrest Adu-Gyamfi.

According to a police source at the Ashanti Regional Command who briefed the Daily Graphic, Adu-Gyamfi, George Anaba, 21, and Alex Ofosu, 19, had once again been remanded into prison custody by the court.

Subsequently, the three were handcuffed.

While the police were about to escort them into a waiting vehicle just outside the courtroom, Adu-Gyamfi removed the handcuffs and took to his heels.

He crossed the busy road in front of the court and scaled an embankment into the bush.

The source said the policemen gave him a chase but they could not apprehend him.

On May 20, 2013,  Joe Adusah Ayison, 35, was shot dead at the Ashford Hotel following a suspected armed robbery incident which occurred at the hotel.

Investigations by the police led to the arrest of Adu-Gyamfi and the two accomplices.

The police have, meanwhile, made a passionate appeal to the public to help them with information on the escaped suspect, promising a reward for information leading to his arrest.
