The service was followed by the unveiling of his tomb at the Dumor Family Home in Accra where some members of the public, friends and well wishers were given the opportunity to pay their respects.

Komla Dumor was a former host of the Super Morning Show of Accra-based Joy fm, and, until his death, was the anchor of BBC’s “Focus on Africa,” as well as BBC World News.

The service brought together some ministers of state, parliamentarians, political party representatives and the clergy.

It was also attended by journalists, media owners, personalities from academia, friends, loved ones and members of the Dumor family.

The Winneba Youth Choir and the Cathedral Choir treated guests to some soulful gospel tunes. Prayers were said for the family.

Mr Dumour, regarded as one of Africa’s celebrated journalists, was popularly referred to as the “Boss Player.”

For their dedication to the service of the country, the Catholic Church presented certificates to Prof. Ernest Dumor, Dr Korshie Dumor and Mrs Mawuena Treba, father and siblings of the late broadcaster, respectively.

A life well lived

In a sermon, a cousin to the late Komla Dumor, Rev. Fr Wisdom Larweh, extolled the good works of Komla.

Komla’s life, Rev. Fr Larweh said, was well lived, and challenged all to learn from his example.

According to him, the ace broadcaster’s life was one worthy of emulation, and called on the youth to learn from his exemplary life of service and dedication to work.

Dr Dumor, who expressed his fondest memories of his elder brother, said he would not be forgotten, especially, in the Dumor Family.

“We believe that as a family, Komla has left a legacy and we hope the nation will be able to produce a lot more of his kind to represent the African continent.

“His love and passion for the continent should inspire in us the need to cause a positive change for the transformation of the continent to better the lives of its citizens,” he said.

Some of the people who attended the ceremony and spoke to the media praised Komla’s love and service to his country, as well as projecting the continent in a positive way across the globe.
