The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is putting up a new warehouse at Boadi, near Kumasi, to serve its Ashanti Regional offices.

On completion, it will be equipped with closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) and fire detectors to prevent theft and fires.

The ECG also intends insuring the warehouse and its contents when it begins using the warehouse.

All materials and equipment of the ECG will be stored there to reduce the cost of renting warehouses and the incidence of losing its stock through fire, as happened last December.

Briefing the Deputy Minister for Power, John Abdulai Jinapor, the Constructions Manager of the ECG, Mr Okletey Teye, said work on the facility was about 75 per cent completed.

He said when completed, the warehouse would enable the company to stock all its materials and equipment there and it would not have to send requisition to Accra before materials would be sent to the Ashanti Region in order to undertake projects.

Instead, materials would be sent straight from the harbour to the warehouse, thereby reducing the time spent waiting for supplies from Accra.

Fast Response

Mr Jinapor said the construction of the warehouse would go a long way to help the ECG respond faster to the energy needs of the people.

He said the warehouse would be replicated in all the regions in the country.

He debunked rumours that the warehouse that got burnt in the fire incident was an abandoned place.
