The MMT will give 50 percent discount to elderly passengers as a result of the newly-introduced elderly welfare cards – an initiative of the Gender Ministry and United Nations Population Fund.

The  Marketing Manager for the MMT, Raphael Sackey told Accra-based Starr FM that the losses would adversely affect the company’s operations.

“It is going to affect us seriously because the last analysis we did, we were losing about six hundred million [old] Ghana cedis monthly,” Sackey said adding “I think government will reciprocate by providing concessions”.

The Gender Ministry has revealed that MMT will not be reimbursed for the losses, saying the transport company should consider supporting the elderly a corporate social responsibility.
