The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has said the manufacturing sector will continue to be the major focus of the ministry.

He said the years ahead would see various initiatives aimed at stimulating further growth in the sector.

The deputy minister said this when he opened the refurbished offices of Nestle Ghana Limited in Accra last Friday.

Nestle Ghana, a nutrition, health and wellness organisation, has created employment for more than 1,000 people and a market for numerous farmers across the country.

Mr Vanderpuye said the ministry had a compelling interest in the prosperity of food processing businesses, especially those that created a market for farmers.

“It is the large multiplier effect of agro-processing industries that informs the ministry’s decision to designate the sector as one of the priority areas targeted for support under the Industrial Sector Support Programme (ISSP).

“As a government, our avowed aim is to provide an enabling environment for private sector business, which we consider the cornerstone for the sustained growth of the country’s economy,” he said.

The Managing Director of Nestle Ghana, Mr Moataz El Hout, said the company had invested a considerable amount of money in refurbishing its office, with the aim of creating a conducive working environment for its staff.

He said after 20 years of occupying its offices, it was time to create a new enabling environment that would improve on staff-customer relationships.

Mr Hout said the company decided to make the building more transparent, so that it would reflect in the lives of its staff.

He thanked the staff for bearing with the company for the two years that the rehabilitation work was done.
