Millicent Bruce, known in traditional circles as Sompahene Nana Nankan Bruce I of Gomoa Esaabakrom under the Gomoa Fetteh Traditional Council, has been officially sworn in as a member of the Board of Directors of Queen Mothers in Action Africa (QMIAA).

Her swearing-in follows her formal appointment to the Board after the successful legal incorporation of QMIAA as a Company Limited by Guarantee, cementing her role in shaping the organisation’s strategic direction and governance.

Advocating for Women, Children and Community Development

QMIAA is dedicated to empowering queen mothers as traditional female leaders, advocating for the rights of women and children, promoting social justice, and including queen mothers in governance and policy-making processes. The organisation also supports community development projects in health, education and livelihoods while preserving traditional leadership roles for contemporary relevance.

As a Board Member, she is expected to provide strategic leadership and oversight, contribute to the establishment of QMIAA’s mission, ensure financial accountability, uphold corporate governance standards, and advocate for the organisation locally, regionally and nationally. In line with the Companies Act, she is also required to act in the best interest of the organisation, avoid conflicts of interest, and exercise due care and diligence in her duties.

Nana Nankan Bruce I is an energy executive and Chief Executive Officer of Kwamss Energy. She also serves on the boards of the Energy Quest Foundation and other organisations. Alongside her professional career, she is pursuing a PhD at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College.

Her swearing-in marks a significant addition to QMIAA’s leadership, enhancing the organisation’s capacity to champion initiatives that empower queen mothers and advance community development across Africa.

Beyond her board role, Nana Nankan Bruce I has been actively involved in local development through youth skills training and support for market traders in her community. She is forging collaborative partnerships to provide her people with improved access to health, education, water, training and trade opportunities through foreign partnerships and development projects.
