Nanumba Traditional Area instals new regent

 

The chiefs and people of the Nanumba Traditional Area in the Northern Region have installed a regent for the Kingdom following the murder of the overlord of the area, Naa Andani Dasana Abdulai, on June 19, this year.

At the colourful ceremony, which took place at Bimbilla, last Friday, Yakubu Andani Dasana, the first son of the late king was installed, as the regent, in line with the customs and traditions of the Kingdom.

 

The process started last Thursday, July 3,2014  with the enskinment of  Yakubu Dasana, as the Nyalimboligu Naa. According to the tradition, he has to be enskinned a chief before he rises to be the regent since he is going to act as the overlord of the Kingdom.

The installment took place amid heavy security presence of police and military, with the colourful display of the rich culture of the people of the area  and splendid spiritual artistry of traditional muskets and dancers.

The occasion brought together people of all walks of life, especially those within the region and sons and daughters of the area. The kings of Dagbon, Gonja land and Mampurgu sent their representatives to  commiserate with the chiefs and the people of the area.

Regent Dasana is a 30-year-old graduate of UDS and a postgraduate student of the same university. He works with the SOS children’s home in Tamale.

 

The 33rd overlord of the area, Naa Andani Dasana Abdulai, was murdered on June 19, this year at his palace at Bimbilla and buried on Thursday, June 26, 2014. So far, 23 people have been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of the chief and are assisting in investigations.
