The Citizenship Week forms part of activities scheduled to commemorate the Annual Constitution Week.

As done in previous years, it will be observed in all the 227 offices of the Commission nationwide.

Disciplined Ghana

According to Mrs Joyce Afutu, Director, Communications and Corporate Affairs of the NCCE the theme for the Week is “A Disciplined Ghana”, which is the sub-theme of the main theme for the commission’s activities for 2016 “My Ghana: The Power of One”.

She said that this was a continuation of the commission’s three-year programme to promote discipline in Ghana.

The main theme, Mrs Afutu said, emphasised personal responsibility and personal ownership for Ghana and the power of individual action to effect a change to make Ghana a better place.

Ghanaians are, therefore, to rise in unity to make our nation the ultimate winner in all endeavours, she stated.

Each year, the Commission sets a week aside specifically for the youth of the nation to remind them of their responsibilities as citizens and the role they can play in building a strong, vibrant and democratic Ghana. Citizenship Week offers opportunity for people in leadership positions, volunteers and accomplished citizens to interact and impart virtues of good citizenship and patriotism in pupils of basic schools across the country. The programme also serves as mentorship for the youth.

The theme of the Citizenship Week draws the attention of Ghanaians to the need for discipline in society.

Activities of the Citizenship Week are being undertaken in partnership with the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
