The event was attended by mothers, children and young adults, who were entertained with music and food after which they were presented with hampers.

Nestle Ghana, producers of baby food products, took the opportunity to also educate the mothers on the importance of nutrition, especially for new born babies.

A specialist nurse, Mrs Serwah Amoah, underscored the importance of breast milk for new born babies.

Breast milk, she said, was unique and sufficient for the first six months of a new born’s life.

In addition, she said it fought against infections such as allergies, asthma, diabetics, obesity and sudden infant death syndrome ( SIDS).

Breast milk, she added, was easily digestible, economical, safe, temperature perfect, instant and nutritious.

She added that probiotics and iron which were found in breast milk, were important nutrients in the development of babies.

Mrs Amoah said “healthy eating habit was important because children were what their mothers fed them with; therefore, fed with the right nutrients, right proportions and quantity will go a long way to help them.”

A renowned musician, Akosua Agyapong, used the occasion to speak to the elated mothers on the beauty of womenhood.

She said women played an important role in society and were an embodiment of wisdom.

In an interview on their impressions of the event, Ms Gladys Vanderpuye, a social worker, expressed her appreciation to Nestle for organising such a programme to mark the occasion.
