New Kokofu queenmother installed

A colourful ceremony has taken place at Kokofu in the Bekwai District in the Ashanti Region at which the newly-installed queenmother of the town was introduced to the people.

The new queenmother, with the stool name Osagyefo Bayie, succeeds her mother, Osagyefo Frema Taauo III, who died two years ago.

Osagyefo Bayie, known in private life as Mrs Christiana Adu-Gyamfa, is a nurse in North Carolina in the United States of America.

The Kokofuhene, Barima Offei Akwasi Okogyeasuo II, performed the traditional initiation and introductory rites. He urged the queenmother to live up to the role played by the proverbial ‘old lady’ from whom good counsel and guidance was sought when things got to a head.

He said if she was able to play the role effectively, it would go a long way to  prevent unnecessary strife that was becoming common in some communities in that area.
