No more attack on Ghana -T. B. Joshua beats retreat

Prophet T. B. Joshua, the Founder and Leader of the Synagogue Church of all Nations (SCOAN), has beaten a quick retreat of his earlier statement contained in a prophecy that Ghana and Nigeria were going to experience terrorist attacks.

At a church service on April 17, 2016,  Joshua said God had heard the cry of Ghanaians,  and that no terror attack would befall the nation anymore.

He, nonetheless, commended Ghana for putting in place security measures to ensure that the nation was safe from any terrorist attacks.

“I was very very happy the nation Ghana took the bull by the horn and the evildoers put together, are no match for Ghana.

“I think the world at large needs to learn from the strategy and tactics of Ghana. The nation has been a very peaceful and safe nation in West Africa and the world. God will never allow evildoers to prevail in Ghana,” he stated.

Just a week earlier on Sunday, April 10, 2016 during a church service at SCOAN in Nigeria, which was broadcast live on his Emmanuel TV, Prophet Joshua had asked his congregation to pray for Ghana and Nigeria, as he recounted seeing them in a foreign attack.

He said the said attack would happen between Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

“I want us to come together to pray for these two nations… because I am seeing Thursday, Friday, Saturday if I may say Thursday; these evil people are very funny, anything can just happen. I see Thursday, Friday, pray for these two nations, Nigeria and Ghana over gathering in anyway over attack.

“I am seeing an attack and that will be in a foreign way not local way,” Prophet Joshua said.

Tightened security

Security was tightened at Ghana’s border crossings as the threat of terrorist attacks heightened in the country following the prediction of an attack.

According to the Head of Public Affairs at the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Mr Francis Palmdeti, the entire security system had been put on high alert, while patrol activities at the entry routes had been increased to ensure that people seeking to enter Ghana did not take advantage of unapproved routes.

“The service has also stepped up profiling and screening at all entry points – approved, unapproved and suspected entry points – to ensure that security is not in any way compromised,” he told the Daily Graphic last Thursday.

The steps were taken in spite of a charge from the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) to the security agencies that "Our nation is not run on the back of predictions and prophecies. We have a policy direction and those who are in charge of security must work. We have been told that the security agencies have given us signals and so we as Christians must do what we are supposed to do, that is believe in God and pray.”

The General Secretary of CCG, Rev. Opuni Frimpong, stated that as Ghana was a secular state, “If somebody gives a prophecy that prophecy is for the Christian to handle. Our national leaders must not run the security of this country on the back of prophecies. We must be professional and do what we must do."

Similar terror alert

In March this year, the National Security Council issued a similar terror alert, which said countries within the West African sub-region were at risk.

The council said based on intelligence from other agencies, it had every reason to believe that countries including Ghana were at risk.

The National Security alert document described persons to Ghana from Libya, Mali and Niger as high-risk persons and, therefore, asked the security agencies to be meticulous with profile checks.

“The National Security Council, on the basis of briefings by the intelligence agencies and partners, has determined that there is a credible terrorist threat to all countries in the sub-region. Already there have been attacks in Mali, Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso.

“You are to conduct thorough vehicle search when possible to prevent the smuggling of weapons and other explosive materials into the country. You are to collaborate with other security agencies at your controls and sensitise all officers to the Security Alert to ensure that terrorists do not enter the country,” the statement said.

Leakage unfortunate

Reassuring the nation on state-run radio last Thursday, however, President John Dramani Mahama stated that the leaked intelligence document, which found itself on social media was unfortunate.

"They didn’t need to put the intel in there. You just have to send a directive asking for alertness and asking them to search more thoroughly vehicles and all that.  Every country in West Africa is at risk and we are at risk not only from external forces but even from internal forces. We have evidence of radicalisation of our own citizens who have gone out to join some of these terrorist groups," he said.

Spiritualist

Taking another spiritual dimension, a spiritual scientist, Torgbui Amuzu, dismissed the prophecy by Prophet Joshua concerning 'foreign terrorist attacks' on Ghana and described it as falsehood intended to create fear and panic.

“Ghana is not going to experience any terrorist attack. It is a false alarm. Ghanaians should ignore any alarm from any quarters,” he told the Daily Graphic when he visited the offices of the newspaper.
