Olam Ghana donates towards Farmers Day

Olam Ghana Limited, a major supply chain manager of agri-products and food ingredients, has donated GH¢150,000 to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture towards the 35th National Farmers Day celebration.

The 35th Edition of the celebration has been dubbed “Enhancing Small Scale Agriculture towards Agribusiness Development”, and will be hosted in the Volta Region.

Making the donation on the premises of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in Accra, Mr Amit Agrawal, the Country Head of Olam Ghana, said “The National Farmers Day is a very important celebration to honour our farmers and their communities. Farmers must be proud of their invaluable contribution to society, which not only makes a positive difference in our lives on a daily basis, but is also an inevitable part of the solution to meeting the food demands of the world’s growing population sustainably,” said Mr Agrawal, who was accompanied by Mr Eric Botwe, the Business Head of Olam Cocoa, and Kenneth Antwi, the National Head of Human Resource Management.

On Friday, the Farmers Day will recognise and celebrate the valuable contribution of farmers to Ghana’s development.

With a buying network of 282,000 cocoa and 25,000 cashew smallholders and 25 years’ experience in working to support them, Olam is demonstrably aware of the importance of Ghana’s farmers to the success of the business.

Gratitude

Receiving the donation, the Minister of State in Charge of Food and Agriculture and Chairman of the Planning Committee for this year’s celebration, Dr Gyeile Nurah, expressed his gratitude to the company for the donation.

He said the donations would help give due recognition and go a long way to help recognise and reward hard-working farmers in the country.

Olam Ghana Limited, established in 1994, is one of the leading food and agri-business companies in the country. It is the largest private licensed buying company (LBC) in the cocoa sector, and buys cashew from more than 25,000 farmers.
