Osudoku TV launched to promote development

The people of the Osudoku Traditional Area in the Shai-Osudoku District in the Greater Accra Region have launched an online television station at Asutsuare with a call on the inhabitants to make judicious use of the facility to promote development in the area.

The launch and fund-raising programme, which attracted many personalities from both home and abroad last Sunday, was on the theme: “Empowering Voices, Uniting Communities; The Dawn of Osudoku TV.”

The Asutsuare Saint John Mary Vianney Youth Choir thrilled the audience with some melodious songs, stressing how unity promoted development.

The Osudoku TV, as part of its vision, wants to become a force to be reckoned with in the Ghanaian media space within the next two years. It is also expected, among other things, to grow and expand to become a traditional television station and migrate to satellite and digital within the next two years.

It is further to project the good image, business, culture and other relevant activities in Shai-Osudoku and Ghana as a whole and to make Shai-Osudoku an attractive destination for business and tourism globally, as well as become a development partner to help solve societal problems in the area.

The station’s slogan is ‘Besu’, which means ‘it is time’ in Dangme.

In a brief welcome address, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the station, Moses Smart Agamah, said the day marked a milestone in the quest to empower the Osudoku community through quality storytelling, education and entertainment.

He said for the past two years the TV station had consistently delivered impactful content, showcased the rich culture and amplified local voices.

“Our mission remains steadfast to provide a platform for our community’s aspirations, challenges and successes. We’ve shared stories of hope, resilience and progress, inspiring positive change,” Mr Agamah said.

He said as the station was launched, the administration sought for listeners and viewers’ support, because their contributions would enhance production quality and capacity, expand accessibility and, above all, foster community development initiatives.

A lecturer at the Institute of African Studies of the University of Ghana, Prof. Michael Kpessa-Whyte, who was the guest speaker, called on all citizens of the area to support the station in whatever way to ensure it succeeded.

Prof. Kpessa-Whyte advised the citizens of the area, especially the youth, to conduct themselves peacefully in the upcoming election.

He said there was no need for anybody to engage in violence that would undermine the person’s personal dignity, adding, “we have one Ghana, we don’t have NDC Ghana and NPP Ghana. We have Ghanaian citizens with equal rights so be careful with your actions.”

The NPP parliamentary candidate for Shai-Osudoku, Benjamin Nagerh, lauded the Osudoku TV initiative and suggested that the station should rather be named Shai-Osudoku TV to depict the Shai-Osudoku Constituency.

He said he was very much in tune with the mission and vision statements of the station and pledged to support with resources that would enhance the operation of the station effectively.
