Pastor backs cholera-free declaration, urges greater focus on self-care
The Lead Pastor of Kings Generals International Church, Pastor Eric Abraham Appiah, has welcomed the Ghana Health Service’s declaration of a cholera-free Greater Accra Region, stressing the urgent need for nationwide self-care education.
According to him, public awareness and preventive health practices were vital not only to maintain freedom from cholera but also to curb other preventable diseases.
His remarks came during the maiden edition of the church’s Community Free Health Screening, which brought together a team of medical professionals who provided services including eye examinations, blood pressure checks, diabetes and malaria testing, typhoid screening, and general medical consultations.
“Bringing doctors directly into the community can help save lives and prevent avoidable diseases,” Pastor Appiah emphasised.
He observed that many residents lacked basic knowledge of their bio-data and health status, a situation that could result in complications later in life.
In line with the church’s mission to cater to the body, soul, and spirit, he underscored the importance of integrating spiritual care with physical healthcare, particularly for those living under unhygienic conditions, battling stress, or unable to afford hospital bills.
The pastor described the outreach as part of the church’s broader mission to drive holistic community transformation, urging residents to prioritise their health in order to live longer and healthier lives.
Pastor Appiah also pledged the church’s continued support, particularly in the areas of health and education, to ensure lasting community impact.
Some beneficiaries and partners who spoke to the press expressed gratitude for the initiative and called for stronger collaboration between churches, NGOs, individuals, and the government to extend such healthcare interventions to vulnerable communities across the country.
