Works on the 1.2-kilometre road, which is divided into five phases, will begin with the levelling of its surface to make it passable.

The project is being sponsored by the PUC and the works, which are being carried out by Star Dust Construction Company Limited, are expected to be completed in about a month.

The Ga Central Municipal Chief Executive (MEC), Mr Aristo Aryee, and the Rector of the PUC, Rev. Dr Peter Ohene Kyei, have toured the site to have first-hand information of the extent of works to be undertaken.

They were conducted round the site by the resident engineers led by Ing. Felix K. Atsrim. The delegation recognised the work being done and recommended that it be executed satisfactorily.

Works progressing steadily

Briefing the delegation, Ing. Atsrim said works on the first and second phases were almost completed.

“Considering the level of work done so far, drivers and pedestrians can use the road without difficulties and we hope to complete the final stage on schedule,” he said.

He said the project entailed the construction of drains to ensure free flow of water whenever it rained.
Meanwhile, Ing. Atsrim said side ditches would be created to drain the area of water before culverts would be put in place.

Corporate social responsibility

Rev. Dr Kyei said the university was constructing the road as its contribution towards improving living conditions in the area. He said the decision to undertake the road project was also to commemorate the university’s 10th anniversary.

“We also have plans to sink boreholes in the community since water is hard to come by on some occasions.

“Additionally, we have projected to support needy brilliant students in the community as a means of enabling them to pursue higher education,” he said.

The Ga Central MCE lauded the initiative by the PUC and pledged the assembly’s support for the project.
