Phone dealer in court for aiding JB’s killer

A second person arrested in connection with the murder of the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, Mr J. B. Danquah-Adu, yesterday appeared before the Accra District Court.

Vincent Bosso, a mobile phone housing dealer, is alleged to have assisted Daniel Asiedu, the first accused person in the case in the alleged murder. Bosso has subsequently been charged with conspiracy to commit crime.

Appearance

Sporting a bushy hairstyle and clad in a yellow and grey T-shirt over brown shorts, Bosso appeared in court under heavy armed police guard.

Unlike Asiedu, who confessed to killing the former MP on his first appearance in court, Bosso did not utter a single word throughout proceedings.

His appearance did not also attract many people to the court, compared to Asiedu’s first appearance.

Alleged assistance

The prosecutor, Superintendent of Police Mr Francis Baah, told the court that Bosso and Asiedu agreed to go to the MP’s house together.

“He assisted Asiedu to pass through the iron bars on top of the house and also to jump into the house,’’ he said.

Mr Baah added that while Asiedu was in the house committing the alleged offence, Bosso stood watch in front of the house.

“While keeping watch, he saw some people coming towards the house. He, therefore, fled to avoid being noticed,’’ he said.

Explanation

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr Stephen Owusu, explained to Bosso that per a recent Supreme Court judgement, the charge levelled against him was not exempted from bail and, therefore, he (Bosso) had the right to apply for bail.

He, however, added that the court had no jurisdiction to grant him bail and, therefore, he could apply for bail at the High Court.

The court adjourned the case to May 18, 2016.

Charges

Mr Baah, in an interview with the Daily Graphic after the court proceedings, said the police intended to prosecute Bosso and Asiedu together.

In view of that, he said, the charges of the two would be merged and the two charged with murder and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Background

The 50-year-old MP was attacked by an assailant at his residence at Shiashie, near the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange in Accra, in the early hours of February 8, 2016.

He was stabbed multiple times during the attack about 1:45 a.m.

The killer used a ladder to scale the wall to get into the MP’s bedroom.

There were bloodstains on the walls and footprints, which were believed to be those of the attacker, in the backyard.
