Another suspect arrested over killing of policeman at Zebilla
The Ghana Police Service has arrested another suspect in connection with the robbery and fatal shooting of a police officer at Zebilla in the Upper East Region.
In a press release dated February 17, 2026, signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the Criminal Investigation Department, the police identified the suspect as Abdul Aziz Iddrisu, also known as Baaluuse.
The police said on February 18, 2026, that Mr Iddrisu was arrested a day earlier during a joint intelligence-led operation at his hideout at Polego, a suburb of Bolgatanga.
According to the statement, three mobile phones were retrieved from him and are being analysed as part of ongoing investigations.
The Criminal Investigation Department stated that the suspect had appeared in videos displaying weapons believed to be linked to criminal activity in the area. A special police operation is underway to locate and retrieve the weapons and arrest other persons connected to the case.
Mr Iddrisu remains in police custody, assisting investigations. The police said further updates would be communicated in due course.
The latest arrest follows the earlier apprehension of Simon Apusiga, also known as Ananga, aged 42, who was picked up on February 10, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation at a hideout in the Tarkwa Huni Valley area of the Western Region.
A Criminal Investigation Department statement dated February 14, 2026, said Mr Apusiga fled Zebilla shortly after the February 8, 2026, incident and was tracked to the Western Region through intelligence gathering. He remains in custody and is expected to be put before the court.
The arrests stem from the fatal shooting of a police officer along the Zebilla to Widnaba road in the Bawku Division of the Upper East Region.
The deceased officer formed part of a two-man police team travelling towards Zebilla on the night of February 8, 2026, when they reportedly encountered an armed robbery in progress. The robbers allegedly opened fire after sighting the officers.
He was rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital by a responding police team but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects believed to have been involved in the attack.
